The current situation with pre-2015 installed exercise equipment is similar to what occurred in 1999 with playground equipment, when EN 1176 standards were published for the first time.

“Old” exercise equipment are inspected by using the current EN 16630 standard, but not strictly according to its requirements. Noteworthy risks can relate to crushing mechanisms or installations within playgrounds. As a general rule, an inspector has to carry out situational risk assessments when evaluating exercise equipment.
