There are many more children in a daycare center’s yard than in a normal, public park. Children there are well acquainted with each other. In such an environment, the likelihood of accident occurring increases. This should influence the selection of equipment.

  • For example, there are many types of group swings and not all of them are suitable for a daycare center. Designers of such areas should carefully select equipment.

If the selected equipment proves to be problematic, the daycare center must take what they can to reduce the risk of injury. Intensive supervision, establishing playing rules, or constructing a run-stop fence could help. If alterations to equipment are required, the manufacturer should first be consulted. However, the manufacturer isn’t automatically responsible for modifications free of charge, unless the design is clearly dangerous.
