Every person must be competent in what he or she does and different levels of inspections demand very different levels of competence.

Routine visual inspections require only a short introduction before a new person can take over responsibility. Operational inspections are more technical, but still relatively easy. Annual inspections and post-installation inspections require higher levels of understanding of standards, risk assessments, technical production, child development, a playground’s environmental risks, and legislation. In principle, whoever feels that they has sufficient knowledge in these areas can carry out all inspections.
